Mars Helicopter Ingenuity is a robotic helicopter that is to be deployed in Mars planet 2020 mission of (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) NASA. Mars 2020 mission is to be launched on 30 July, 2020.
The Robotic Helicopter being attached to the mission will check how the conditions on Mars Planet affect aviation. Ingenuity is a robotic helicopter technology demonstration. It is the 1st aircraft to perform controlled flight on another planet.
Mars Mission 2020
NASA Mars mission will seek signs of habitable conditions on Mars Planet. It will also search for bio signatures of past microbial life on Mars. The mission is a part of Mars Exploration Programme (to provide a continuous flow of scientific information and discovery through a carefully selected series of robotic orbiters, landers by a high-bandwidth Mars/Earth communications network.) of NASA. The mission will also carry Perseverance Rover.
Mars Exploration Programme
NASA Mars Exploration Programme is a long-term effort to explore planet mars. The programme is funded by NASA American Space Agency. It was formed in 1993. The programme has 4 long term goals as follows
- To determine if life ever arose in Mars Planet
- To characterize the climate of Mars Planet
- To characterize the Geology of Mars Planet
- To prepare for human exploration of Mars Planet.
The Perseverance Rover will provide images of mars planet. Rover will collect martian rocks and dust samples. The Perseverance Rover is to deliver experimental helicopter Ingenuity. It will also perform demonstrations of technologies of future NASA Mars mission.
