Pakistan was trying to get Dongara listed as a global terrorist by the United Nations Security Council with support from the People’s Republic of China.
NOT JUST DONGARA, BUT 3 OTHERS AS WELL
According to sources of government of india, Islamabad (Pakistan) had almost “on the bounce” prepared a “fictional” dossier on Dongara accusing him of financing terror attacks and linking him with groups like Tehreek-i-Taliban of Pakistan.
This was followed with similar allegations against Three other Indian who were working with an Indian companies in Afghanistan.
All of them have since returned to India.
PAK HAS BEEN TRYING SINCE LAST SEPTEMBER
The United States had in September 2019 put the proposal on a technical hold, expecting Pakistan to produce more evidence to prove its allegations against Dongara (Indian).
With fresh evidence not 4thcoming, Pakistan still stand up for oneself on his listing by the Sanctions Committee.
United States had formally informed all members of the UNSC on 26 June that it was officially blocking, and thus terminating, a proposal to proscribe an Indian by the United Nations Security Council 1267 sanctions committee. If Pakistan still chooses to target Dongara (Indian), it will have to seek a new proposal.
Pakistan WAS INITIALLY USING KULBHUSHAN JADHAV
Pakistan had for previous years claimed that there was no “solid evidence” against Azhar and used Indian Kulbhushan Jadhav to back its allegations that India was aiding anti-Pakistan terror groups.
But since Pakistan was unable to prove anything against Jadhav, Islamabad (Pakistan) launched fresh efforts to prove that India also harboured terrorists.
WHY PAKISTAN WAS TARGETING INDIA?
After the United Nations ban on Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar, Pakistan’s wanted to draw a moral equivalence with India on the issue of cross-border terrorism which has been nullified by the United States.
EVEN CHINA WASN’T IN FAVOUR OF LISTING AZHAR AS TERRORIST
Mainland China had on four occasions earlier blocked the proposed ban on Azhar before finally falling in line with other United Nations Security Council member states in last year.
“We do hope Pakistan will learn a lesson from this and not insist on a ban on other Indian without any evidence it has falsely linked with terrorism,” he added.
USA SUPPORTED INDIA
The USA action has again underscored the significance of Indo-US cooperation on the issue of cross-border terrorism in all its forms.
It is important to recall here that even the ban on Azhar last year by United Nations was made possible after the United States gave an ultimatum to Mainland China that if the latter didn’t drop its opposition by a certain date (April 23), the same proposal would be directly introduced in UNSC, bypassing the 1267 committee.
