The appointments committee of the Cabinet chaired by PM Modi has approved the appointment of Swaminathan Janakiraman and Ashwini Kumar Tewari as new Managing Directors of State Bank of India for a period of 3-years. Prior to this, Swaminathan Janakiraman was the deputy MD (Finance) at SBI and Ashwini Kumar Tewari was serving as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of SBI Card, a subsidiary of SBI.
State Bank of India is headed by a Chairman and 4 managing directors. Dinesh Kumar Khara is the current Chairman of the bank. The other 2 MDs of the bank are C.S. Setty and Ashwani Bhatia. The two posts were vacant since October 2020.
