Indian folk musician, composer, lyricist and Padma Shri awardee, Sonam Tshering Lepcha dies at 92 in Kalimpong, West Bengal. Lepcha started his career as a soldier in Indian Army. Lepcha travelled to various parts of Sikkim and complied a wide range of Indian folk and traditional Lepcha songs and played folk music on AIR (All India Radio) in 1960.  Lepcha died cardiac arrest on 30 July, 2020.

In 2007, Indian Government awarded the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri. In 1995, Lepcha received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award of the Sangeet Natak Akademi.
