In March 2021, Sri Lankan Air Force will celebrate the 70th anniversary. In this celebration, the Indian Air Force’s Sarang, Surya kirans and Light Combat Aircraft Tejas will participate in Colombo (Capital of Sri Lanka) from 3 to 5 March 2021.
The participation of the Indian Air Force (IAF) in 70th anniversary of Sri Lankan Air Force signifies the strong professional bonds between the air forces.
About Surya Kiran
The aerobatics demonstration team, Surya Kiran of Indian Air Force is a part of 52nd Squadron of the Indian Air Force. Surya Kiran was formed in 1996. The Surya Kiran team performs the several demonstrations with 9 aircraft. Till 2011, the squadron was composed of HAL HJT-16 Kiran Mk.2 military trainer aircraft. This squadron was based in Bidar Air Force Station, Karnataka. But this team got suspended in February 2011 and was re-established in 2017 with Hawk Mk-132 aircraft.
Sarang helicopter air display team under the Indian Air Force. Sarang team flies 4 modified HAL Dhruv helicopters which is also known as the Advanced Light Helicopter. This team was formed in October 2003. The team gave its first performance at Asian Aerospace show in Singapore in 2004.
About HAL Tejas
It has been designed by the Aeronautical Development Authority. HAL Tejas is a single-engine, 4th-generation and multirole light fighter. This fighter was designed in collaboration with the Aircraft Research and Design Centre of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL). It is used in the IAF and Indian Navy.
About Sri Lankan Air Force
Sri Lankan Air Force is the air wing of Sri Lanka Armed Forces. Sri Lankan Air Force was established in 1951 as Royal Ceylon Air Force in association with the Royal Air Force. The air wing played a significant role in the Sri Lankan Civil War. It operates more than 160 aircraft. It comprises of 27,400 trained airmen and 1,300 officers. Commander of Air Force is the professional head of the SLAF.
