The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, have lit up the ‘Swarnim Vijay Mashaal’ at the National War Memorial in Delhi on 16th December 2020. ‘Swarnim Vijay Mashal’ was lit up in the light of 50th anniversary of India’s victory over Pakistan, India-Pakistan war 1971. The day is celebrated as Vijay Diwas.

The Vijay Diwas

Every year on 16th December celebrated as a Vijay Diwas in India. The day commemorates the victory of India over Pakistan. India’s victory over Pakistan during the 1971 war led to the creation of new country Bangladesh.

The Vijay Diwas 2020

On the occasion of Vijay Diwas 2020, the DM Rajnath Singh has unveiled the logo for ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’. Year 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the India-Pakistan war 1971. On the occasion, Prime Minister Modi, Chief of Defence Staff General (CDS) Bipin Rawat and the tri-service chiefs also pay homage to the soldiers. Four victory mashaals were lit from the eternal flame of the National War Memorial, Delhi. It will now be carried to various parts of India. Mashaals would also be carried to the villages of Param Vir Chakra and Maha Vir Chakra awardees of the Indo-Pak 1971 war. DM Rajnath Singh also paid tributes to the Indian Army for its valour and sacrifices.

Indo-Pakistan War of 1971

The 1971 war was a military confrontation between India & Pakistan. It occurred during the liberation war in East Pakistan. The confrontation was occurred from 3 to 16 December 1971. It led to the fall of Dhaka, Bangladesh. The war began with aerial strikes on 11 Indian air stations.  The war lasted for 13 days thus it is the shortest wars in history. The clash between Indian & Pakistani militaries occurred on the eastern and western fronts.
