TIndia’s primary border patrol organization ITBP guards the lAC. ITBP has recently posted the first officer to head the newly created Guwauhati based Eastern command. ADG Amrit Mohan Prasad has been posted to the Guwahati headquarters of the Indo Tibetan Border Police.
ITBP Eastern command
Eastern command of Indo Tibetan Border Police overlooks the ITBP battalion posted along the LAC in states such as Assam, Arunachal pradesh, Sikkim. The frontiers of the Eastern command are located at Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow and Arunachal Pradesh’s Itanagar. ITBP new headquarters of the Eastern command was inaugurated recently.
Indo Tibetan Border Police New command also supervises the ITBP Battalion deployed for anti-naxal operations in Chhattisgarh.
About the head
The Head appointed to Eastern command is of the Additional directorate General (ADG) rank. In October 2019, Eastern command head was sanctioned by the Central Government. This was done for the better operation. Around 35 to 38 battalion forces are deployed along LAC.
Earlier to the appointment of the head the ITBP forces deployed were headed by an IG (Inspector General ) rank official.
ITBP New command
The new Eastern command of ITBP will streamline operations, deployment, Intelligence and administrator movements of the Indo Tibetan Border Police personnel in the border regions. New Eastern command will also bring better Synergy with the Indian Army.
The Command is one of the 7 operational commands of Army. It is headquartered at Kolkata. The Eastern command looks after the international borders with countries such as Bhutan, Bangladesh, China, Nepal and Myanmar. In 1920, Eastern command was formed.
