According to the reports Israel Parliament has been dissolved and the country is now set to hold 4th election within two years. This dissolution of the Israeli Parliament has taken place as the coalition led by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Benny Gantz (Alternate Prime Minister of Israel) failed to pass a budget. The current parliament was elected on 2nd March 2020.

Points To Note

  • The coalition had time till this deadline for passing the budget and as they failed, it led to the automatic dissolution of the Israeli parliament and has triggered new elections.
  • The new parliament elections are expected on 23rd March by 2021.
  • Benny Gantz and Benjamin Netanyahu had a three-year coalition under which Netanyahu was the Prime Minister of the Israel for 18 months and Benny Gantz took over in November by 2021.
  • Defence Minister or Alternate Prime Minister of Israel Benny Gantz demanded the government to pass a budget for next financial year 2020-21. After this, Netanyahu disagreed with this budget, and that led to problems in the coalition & finally the dissolution of the parliament.
  • According to the reports, PM Netanyahu is facing court trials in different cases and he has intentionally led to dissolution and re-elections to come in power again.
