Government of India has announced to launch the Phase-4 of the High Impact Community Development Projects in Afghanistan.
What are those projects?
- The High Impact Community Development Projects comprise of more than 100 projects worths US$ 80 million.
- This announcement was made during the 2020 Afghanistan Conference organized in Geneva, Switzerland.
Afghanistan Conference 2020
On 23 November 2020, two day conference that began in Geneva. The conference was co-hosted by the Government of Afghanistan, the United Nations and Finland Government.
India-Afghanistan Bilateral Relation
Recently Government of India concluded agreement with Afghan Government for the construction of the Shahtoot dam. The dam would provide safe drinking water to 20 lakh (2 million) residents of Kabul city. Indian Government had also build earlier a 202-km Phul-e-Khumri transmission line. The transmission line provided electricity to Kabul city. Indian Government also emphasized upon its long term commitment to the development of Afghanistan. India’s development portfolio in Afghanistan amounted to over $3 billion till date. India undertakes 400 plus projects in Afghanistan covering all the 34 provinces of Afghanistan. India further announced that, more than 65000 Afghanistan students have studied in India.
The Bilateral trade has crossed $1.5 billion mark in FY 2019-2020. Under the bilateral trade India’s exports to Afghanistan almost touched $ 1 billion and Afghanistan exports to India around $530 million.
India highlighted that, Afghanistan’s growth has been pushed down because of its land locked. Afghanistan didn’t share border with sea. To tackle with it, India’s have provided an alternate connectivity through Chabahar port and a dedicated Air Freight Corridor between India and Afghanistan.
India’s humanitarian assistance
Recently Government of India provided 75000 tonnes of wheat so as to strengthen food security of Afghanistan amid the pandemic. It was transported through the Chabahar port by Indian navy. India to Launch Phase-4 in Afghanistan
