Government of India scheme Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan (GKRA) is currently on its 15th week of implementation. about 32 crore mandays of employment have been provided. Central Government has spent Rs 31,577 crores (Rs 315.77 Billions) in these 15 weeks (Approximately 4 months) to create employment opportunities under the programme.

Through Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan, large number of structures were created. This includes 1,32,146 water conservation structures, 16,253 community sanitary complexes, 35,329 cattle sheds, 35,529 cattle sheds, 4,12,214 rural houses.  A part from these the GKRA scheme also provided internet connectivity to Gram Panchayat and carried out solid and liquid waste management works. The scheme also provided training through Krishi Vigyan Kendra.

About Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan

Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan was launched to provide livelihood opportunities and Employment for migrant workers returning to their hometowns and villages. Presently the programme is empowering 116 districts of different states. GoI programme focused on 6 main States where the population of migrant workers returning was high. It includes Bihar, MP, UP, Rajasthan, Odisha and Jharkhand. These districts were home of two third of migrant workers. Of these chosen districts 27 of them were aspirational districts. The Aspirational districts are those districts that are affected by poor social economic indicators. Improving these districts will lead to overall improvement in India. The aspirational district programme is being implemented by GoI Think Tank Niti Aayog.

Features of Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan

Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan focused on 25 different types of works. It intended to provide employment to migrant workers through these works. It includes building of Anganwadi centres and Gram Panchayat, Railway works, National Highway works, water conservation projects. Around 12 different Ministries are involved in the programme.

The villagers joined the programme through Krishi Vigyan Kendra and common service centres. The Krishi Vigyan Kendra operate under National Agricultural Research system. They produce quality technological products and make it available to farmers. They are currently playing a crucial role in achieving India’s target of doubling farmers income by 2022.
