LG of Jammu and Kashmir formally announce major health scheme for the J&K residents. Under this scheme govt will provide universal health insurance.

What is the health scheme?

The Health scheme announced by second LG of J&K Manoj Sinha will cover all the residents of the UT. The Health scheme which is implemented by LG in convergence with Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) will provide universal health insurance coverage to all the residents of J&K.

Diseases and expenses covered

The package covered in the scheme includes all-important life-consuming diseases such as cancer and kidney failure. COVID-19 pandemic is also covered in the recent scheme. Oncology, Cardiology and Nephrology will also be covered from day one. High-end hospitalization will also be covered. 3 days of pre-hospitalization, hospitalization, 15 days of post-hospitalization costs, and other major expenses like, diagnostic care and expenditure on medicine will also be covered. Currently, there are about 23,300 empanelled hospitals nationwide where residents can avail the benefits. There are around 218 public and private hospitals already empanelled in Jammu and Kashmir.

Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (ABPMJAY)

ABPMJAY Launched in September 2018. The scheme was launched by GoI’s the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in an attempt to provide free access to healthcare. The health scheme is launched to alleviate the condition of 50 crores poor and vulnerable Indian.

Features of ABPMJAY

The ABPMJAY provides beneficiary 5 lakh per family for a medical treatment which can be availed in empanelled hospitals be it public or private. There are no restrictions on family size, age or gender. ABPMJAY covers the expenses from pre-hospitalization to 15 days of post-hospitalization.
