31 October observed as a World Cities Day every year by United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). World Cities Day is celebrated to promote the international community’s interest in global urbanization, push forward cooperation among countries in meeting opportunities and addressing challenges of urbanization, and contributing to sustainable urban development around the world.

Theme for World Cities Day 2020: Valuing Our Communities and Cities

History

In 2014, Urban October was launched by UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlement Programme) to emphasize the world’s urban challenges and engage the international community towards the New Urban Agenda. In 2020, the day is the 7th global edition since the day was launched on 31 Oct 2014 in China’s Shanghai.

World Cities Report

Every Year UN-Habitat Programme release a World Cities Report. According to this report United Nations rank most populated cities. According to Report in 2018 Tokyo most populated city in the world but Delhi will overtake Tokyo as the world’s largest city by 2030.
