18 April is observed as a World Heritage Day across the world every year. The day is celebrate to raise awareness about the cultural heritage that we see around us. It is also aimed at promoting historical monuments and sites through which we can actually preserve the cultural integrity of a community as well.
Theme for 2021 World Heritage Day “Complex Pasts: Diverse Futures” reflects on the need to acknowledge global calls for greater inclusion and recognition of diversity.
The International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) in the year 1982 announced, 18 April as the World Heritage Day. This was approved by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) of UNESCO in the year 1983, with an aim of enhancing awareness about the importance of cultural heritage, monuments and conserving them.
