On 17 June, 2020 Diplomat from Turkish Volkan Bozkir has been elected president of the United Nations General Assembly of the 75th session. The 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly begins in September 15, 2020 to September 30, 2020.
Volkan Bozkir won the unanimous support of the 178 United Nations members. Volkan Bozkir will take over from Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, the present UN General Assembly president. A UN General Assembly president has a one year term.

Volkan Bozkir presently serving as a Justice and Development Party lawmaker from Istanbul and head of the Turkish Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee.
He was elected in 2011 to the Turkish Legislature after nearly 40 years in foreign service, including in New York, Iraq, Germany, and Romania.
