Lee Teng-hui Former President of Taiwanese dies at 97. His Presidential term from 13 January 1988 – 20 May 2000. Hui named as a “father of Taiwan’s democracy”.

After the death of president Chiang Ching-kuo (served from 20 May 1978 – 13 January 1988) Lee Teng-hui became president in 1988. He also served as the mayor of Taipei (Capital of Taiwan) (1978-81) and the provincial governor of Taiwan (1981-84).
