IAS officer, G. C. Murmu Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has announced the launch of a ‘Macadamisation Program’. Program helps to improve roads across J&K. Girish Chandra Murmu has approved a program for 100% Macadamisation of all roads in the UT.

Program including 11,000 km roads of fair-weather. LG also announced Rs 200 Crores fund assign to PWD as the first tranche so that the Macadamisation work on priority roads can commence. The prioritization criteria will include when a road was last macadamized, whether it was part of the grievances presented before LG during his outreach tours, the present quality of the road and other similar factors.

Girish Chandra Murmu is the first lieutenant governor of the UT of J&K. He was a 1985 batch IAS officer. Murmu was principal secretary to Modi during his tenure as CM of Gujarat.


Macadam is a type of road construction, introduce by Scottish civil engineer John Loudon McAdam in 1820’s.
