Archipelago, Maldives and India officially signed agreement for “Emergency Medical Services” in Male capital of Maldives. According to agreement The Medical Service is financed by India under grant assistance of $20 million for neighbouring nations. This agreement will both countries relation in indian ocean.
India’s aid to neighbours during COVID-19
India begin SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) Digital Conference. Under SAARC organization, India created COVID-19 Emergency Fund and donated an initial amount of $10 million.
In April this year, India extended $150 million to indian ocean country Maldives under foreign currency swap agreement.
In May during pandemic, India donated 30,000 COVID-19 testing kits to Bangladesh. Also, provides COVID-19 management courses to neighbour nation Bangladesh. More than 347 Bangladesh professionals doctors were trained under this arrangement.
Recently, Indian Govt launched Operation SAGAR to provide medical facilities to neighbouring ocean nations like food items, Ayurvedic medicines to Comoros, Mauritius, Maldives, Madagascar and Seychelles.
Operation Samudra Setu
Last month, Indian govt launched Operation Samudra Setu to evacuate Indian citizens stranded in Maldives. Samudra Setu is part of the Centre’s initiative to deport Indians stranded in foreign nations.
