The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (Kiren Rijiju) has launched Khelo India State Centres of Excellence. The centre aims to create robust sporting ecosystem in the country.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) has identified state owned sports facilities in 8 states of India. The facilities are to be upgraded into Khelo India State Centres of high quality. The funds for the sports centres are to be used for instruments, expert coaches, support staff and infrastructure through Khelo India Scheme.
About the centres
The centres are to be developed into world class sporting facilities. The required infrastructure are to be identified by the states and Union Territories. Around 8 centres have been identified out of 15 plan.
The Khelo India State Centre of Excellence is to be established to strengthen excellence of India in Olympics. The centre will help the athletes to train in their respective discipline.
The 8 centres in India established under the scheme are located in Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Telangana. GoI establishes Khelo India State Centres of Excellence GoI establishes Khelo India State Centres of Excellence
