Indian theatre director and legendary teacher Ebrahim Alkazi dies at 94. Alkazi  was the longest serving director of the National School of Drama, New Delhi. Alkazi also mentored generations of Bollywood actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Rohini Hattangadi, Surekha Sikri and Pankaj Kapoor. In 1950, Alkazi won the BBC Broadcasting Award.

Alkazi also produced plays such as “Girish Karnad’s “Tughlaq” and Dharamvir Bharati’s “Andha Yug”.

Awards

In 1966, Alkazi awarded the Padma Shri award and the Padma Bhushan in 1991. In 2010, Alkazi the Padma Vibhushan India’s second highest civilian award.
